Ingredients
Scale
Tuna Salad
- 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna, drained
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup celery, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp red onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Sandwich
- 4 slices bread (sourdough, rye, or your choice)
- 4 slices cheddar or Swiss cheese
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
Instructions
- Prepare Tuna Salad: In a mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, finely chopped celery, red onion, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together thoroughly until evenly mixed.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Lay out the four slices of bread. Spoon the prepared tuna mixture evenly over two of the bread slices.
- Add Cheese: Place one slice of cheddar or Swiss cheese on top of each bread slice that has tuna mixture spread on it.
- Top and Butter: Place the remaining two bread slices on top to form sandwiches. Spread the softened butter evenly on the outer sides of each sandwich.
- Grill Sandwiches: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and grill for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted inside.
- Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet, slice each in half, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use your preferred cheese such as cheddar or Swiss for different flavor variations.
- Try using sourdough or rye bread for a heartier sandwich.
- Adjust the amount of mayonnaise to control creaminess.
- For a healthier option, use light mayonnaise or Greek yogurt.
- Serve with a side of pickles or salad for a complete meal.
- Press gently while grilling to help melt the cheese and ensure even toasting.
