Ingredients
Scale
Meat Sauce
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 2 cups marinara or spaghetti sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Pasta & Cheese
- 8 ounces cooked spaghetti, broken into thirds
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Biscuit Layer
- 1 (16.3 oz) can refrigerated biscuit dough, cut into quarters
Garnish
- Fresh parsley or basil (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Cook Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or Italian sausage until fully browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Once cooked through, drain any excess grease.
- Make Sauce: To the cooked meat in the skillet, add the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and let the sauce simmer gently for 5 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Combine Pasta Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, toss together the cooked spaghetti, meat sauce, and shredded mozzarella cheese until evenly mixed.
- Add Biscuit Dough: Gently fold in the quartered biscuit dough pieces into the pasta and meat sauce mixture, ensuring they are evenly distributed but not overworked to keep biscuit pieces distinct.
- Assemble Casserole: Pour the entire mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the biscuit dough is golden brown and fully cooked through.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and allow the casserole to cool for about 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil if desired before serving.
Notes
- You can use either homemade or store-bought marinara sauce—both work great for flavor.
- Feel free to swap the spaghetti for any short pasta like penne or rotini if preferred.
- For a spicy kick, try using hot Italian sausage or add red pepper flakes to the meat sauce.
