Description

Olive Cheese Melts are a deliciously cheesy, savory appetizer featuring a blend of sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheeses combined with chopped green and black olives, green onions, and flavorful seasonings. Spread generously over slices of French bread, then baked to bubbly, golden perfection. Perfect as an easy party snack or a comforting treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ½ cup chopped green olives (pimento-stuffed)
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives
  • 2 green onions, finely sliced
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Bread

  • 6–8 slices French bread or baguette, cut ½-inch thick

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the shredded sharp cheddar cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, mayonnaise, chopped green olives, sliced black olives, finely sliced green onions, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated into a creamy cheese mixture.
  3. Assemble Melts: Spoon the cheese mixture generously onto each slice of French bread or baguette. Spread the mixture evenly reaching the edges of the bread to ensure every bite is flavorful.
  4. Bake: Arrange the topped bread slices on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese has melted, become bubbly, and the edges turn a golden brown color.
  5. Serve: Remove from the oven and let the olive cheese melts cool slightly before serving warm. Enjoy as a savory appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the cheese mixture before spreading.
  • These olive cheese melts also work wonderfully as party appetizers when made on mini toast rounds or crostini instead of larger bread slices.
  • Use freshly sliced bread for the best texture; day-old bread may result in a less crisp base.
  • Serve warm for optimal gooey cheese experience, but they can also be reheated gently if needed.
