Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 8 frozen hash brown patties
Meat
- 1 lb diced ham
Cheese & Vegetables
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 green onions, chopped
Egg Mixture
- 8 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 2 Tbsp cream cheese, room temperature
- ¼ cup sour cream
- ½ tsp hot sauce
- ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350ºF (175ºC) and lightly spray a 9x13x2 inch baking pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Cook the Ham: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the diced ham, stirring occasionally, until all excess liquid has evaporated. Drain any remaining liquid to keep the casserole from becoming soggy.
- Assemble the Base Layer: Arrange the frozen hash brown patties evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the casserole’s base.
- Add Ham, Onions, and Cheese: Evenly sprinkle the cooked diced ham, chopped green onions, and shredded cheddar cheese over the layer of hash brown patties.
- Prepare Egg Mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth. Add the eggs and milk and continue to whisk until the mixture is well blended and creamy.
- Pour Egg Mixture Over Casserole: Carefully pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered ingredients in the baking pan, ensuring it covers the ham, cheese, and potatoes.
- Bake Until Set: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the center is fully set and the top is slightly golden. Insert a knife or toothpick into the center to check for doneness; it should come out clean.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool slightly before cutting into portions. Serve warm for a satisfying breakfast or brunch.
Notes
- Make sure to cook and drain the ham properly to avoid excess moisture in the casserole.
- Feel free to substitute the ham with cooked bacon or sausage for variation.
- For a spicier dish, increase the amount of hot sauce or add a dash of cayenne pepper.
- To make ahead, assemble the casserole the night before and refrigerate; bake in the morning, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time if cold from the fridge.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
