Description

These Italian Sausage Pizza Rolls are delicious, bite-sized snacks perfect for parties or anytime you crave a savory treat. Made with seasoned Italian sausage, melty mozzarella, and classic pizza flavors wrapped in soft pizza dough, they bake to golden perfection and are served warm with extra pizza sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough and Filling

  • 1 pound pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • ½ pound Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup pizza sauce (plus more for dipping)
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

For Finishing

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Flour for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Cook Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage, breaking it up into crumbles, until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat and set the sausage aside to cool slightly.
  3. Roll Out Dough: On a floured surface, roll the pizza dough into a large rectangle about ¼-inch thick, ensuring it’s even for uniform baking.
  4. Add Toppings: Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Then sprinkle mozzarella cheese, cooked sausage, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder evenly on top.
  5. Roll and Slice: Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log shape. Pinch the seam to seal the roll. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Use a sharp knife to slice into 1½-inch thick pieces and arrange them spaced apart on the sheet.
  6. Apply Egg Wash and Olive Oil: Brush the tops of each roll with the beaten egg for a golden finish and lightly drizzle olive oil over them to keep them moist and enhance browning.
  7. Bake: Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until the rolls turn golden brown and bubbly with melted cheese.
  8. Serve: Serve the pizza rolls warm with extra pizza sauce on the side for dipping and enjoying every bite.

Notes

  • You can customize by adding pepperoni slices, sautéed vegetables, or crushed red pepper flakes for extra spice.
  • These rolls freeze well. Store baked rolls in an airtight container or freeze before baking and bake straight from the freezer.
  • Great as snacks, party appetizers, or quick meals.
