Description

This Easy Taco Pie is a delicious and satisfying dish combining seasoned ground beef, a cheesy biscuit-like topping, and classic taco flavors. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner that the whole family will enjoy.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 Tbsp minced onion flakes
  • 1 (1-oz) package taco seasoning
  • ¾ cup salsa

Topping

  • ½ cup Bisquick
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (divided: ½ cup plus ½ cup)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400ºF (204ºC). Grease a 9-inch deep dish pie plate thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the minced onion flakes until the beef is fully browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat to reduce greasiness. Stir in the taco seasoning and salsa until the mixture is well combined. Spread this meat mixture evenly into the prepared pie plate.
  3. Add Cheese and Prepare Biscuit Batter: Sprinkle ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the meat layer in the pie plate. In a separate bowl, whisk together the Bisquick, milk, and eggs until the batter is smooth and blended well.
  4. Assemble and Bake: Pour the biscuit batter over the meat and cheese layer in the pie plate. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes. After baking, sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  5. Finish Baking and Serve: Return the pie plate to the oven and bake for an additional 3-5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm with your favorite taco toppings such as sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, or tomatoes.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • If you prefer a spicier pie, add a diced jalapeño or extra salsa.
  • Use reduced-fat cheese and low-fat milk to lower fat content.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with a fresh green salad or Mexican rice.
