Description

This Creamy Asiago Chicken recipe features tender, juicy chicken breasts cooked to golden perfection and smothered in a rich, velvety Asiago cheese sauce. Infused with garlic, Italian seasoning, and fresh parsley, this stovetop Italian-inspired main course is perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner, served over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 3/4 cup shredded Asiago cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season Chicken: Season both sides of the chicken breasts evenly with salt and black pepper to enhance flavor.
  2. Sear Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook for 5 to 6 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare Sauce Base: Reduce heat to medium and add the unsalted butter to the skillet. Once melted, stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Add Liquids and Seasoning: Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the pan to incorporate flavor. Stir in the heavy cream and Italian seasoning. Let the sauce simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes to thicken slightly.
  5. Melt Cheese into Sauce: Turn the heat to low, then add the shredded Asiago cheese and stir continuously until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
  6. Combine Chicken and Sauce: Return the cooked chicken breasts to the pan, spoon the cheese sauce over them, and simmer for an additional 2 to 3 minutes to reheat the chicken and allow flavors to meld.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top for a burst of color and fresh flavor. Serve the creamy Asiago chicken warm over your choice of pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • For enhanced flavor and a nice crust, sear the chicken in a cast iron skillet.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach to the sauce for extra vegetables and depth.
  • If Asiago cheese is too strong, substitute with Parmesan cheese or a blend of Asiago and Parmesan for a milder taste.
