Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (if using frozen blueberries)
Topping
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: powdered sugar for dusting or icing drizzle
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Prepare the cream cheese filling: In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If you’re using frozen blueberries, toss them with cornstarch to absorb any excess moisture and prevent soggy pastry.
- Roll out the puff pastry: Unroll the thawed puff pastry onto a clean surface. Gently roll it out to smooth out any seams or creases, creating an even surface for the filling.
- Assemble the filling: Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the puff pastry, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edges without filling.
- Add the blueberries: Sprinkle the blueberries evenly across the cream cheese layer for consistent distribution in every bite.
- Roll and slice: Starting from one long side, carefully roll the pastry tightly into a log shape. Use a sharp knife to slice the roll into 6 to 8 even pieces.
- Prepare for baking: Arrange the sliced rolls cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops of each roll with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden glaze as they bake.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed, golden brown, and cooked through.
- Cool and finish: Remove the rolls from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with a simple icing made from powdered sugar mixed with a little milk before serving.
Notes
- For an icing drizzle, mix 1/4 cup powdered sugar with 1–2 teaspoons of milk until smooth.
- These rolls are best enjoyed fresh from the oven for maximum flakiness and flavor.
- Leftover rolls can be reheated in a low oven to restore their crispness the next day.
