Ingredients
Scale
Potatoes
- 2 lbs Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes
Seasoning and Oil
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Slice Potatoes: Peel the potatoes and slice them into ¼ inch thick slices using a mandolin or a sharp knife for uniform thickness.
- Soak Slices: Place the potato slices in a medium bowl, cover with cold water, and soak for 15-30 minutes. Then drain and thoroughly dry the slices with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps in achieving a crispy texture.
- Season Potatoes: Return the dried potato slices to the bowl. Add olive oil, kosher salt, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss well to evenly coat all slices in the seasoning and oil.
- Prepare Air Fryer: Place half of the seasoned potato slices in the bottom of a 7-quart or larger basket style air fryer, spreading them out to avoid overcrowding for even cooking.
- Air Fry: Cook the potato slices in the air fryer at 380°F for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes to ensure all slices crisp evenly. Check for doneness after 12 minutes; potatoes should be golden brown and crispy outside, tender inside.
- Repeat Cooking: Remove cooked slices and transfer to a platter or baking sheet to keep warm. Repeat the process with the remaining potato slices.
- Serve: Serve immediately while hot with dill aioli or your favorite dipping sauce for an extra burst of flavor.
Notes
- Soaking the potato slices in cold water removes excess starch, enhancing crispiness when air fried.
- Ensure potato slices are completely dry before seasoning and air frying to avoid sogginess.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches for the best results.
- Use a mandolin for uniform slices, which helps in even cooking.
- Experiment with different seasonings such as smoked paprika or cayenne for a spicy twist.
